The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season introduces a diverse group of characters residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on October 29.
